Gina McKee hatte ihr Kinodebüt 1988 in 'The Lair of the white Worm' mit dem damals unbekannten Hugh Grant. Elf Jahre später spielten sie wieder zusammen in 'Notting Hill'.

Bekannt wurde McKee v.a. durch ihre Rolle in der TV-Serie 'Our Friends in the North'. Sie ist die einzige Schauspielerin, die sowohl in 'Inspector Morse' als auch in dem Spin-off 'Lewis' zu sehen war.
