Pamela Lyndon Travers (1899-1996) wurde in Australien geboren. Sie veröffentlichte bereits als Jugendliche Gedichte und tourte als Shakespeare-Schauspielerin durch Australien und Neuseeland. 1924 wanderte sie nach England aus.

Hier lebte sie als Schriftstellerin und wurde v.a. durch ihre Serie von Romanen um das Kindermädchen 'Mary Poppins' bekannt.
