T.S. Eliot (1888-1965) entstammt einer angesehenen Bostoner Familie. Er studierte in Harvard und Paris Mathematik, Philosophie sowie europäische und asiatische Sprachen. Ab 1914 lebte er überwiegend in Europa und erhielt 1927 die britische Staatsbürgerschaft. T.S. Eliot unterrichtete als Dozent, leitete die literarische Zeitschrift Criterion und schrieb v.a. Lyrik, für die er 1948 den Literaturnobelpreis erhielt.
