Die Idee zu der englischen Comedy Serie To the Manor born entstand bereits 1968. Ein Hörspiel wurde aufgenommen, aber nie ausgestrahlt. Die TV-Version, die 1979 bis 1981 in drei Staffeln ausgestrahlt wurde, war ein Riesenerfolg. 24 Millionen Zuschauer sahen die letzte Episode.
