Samantha Morton spielte bereits in der Schule Theater. Mit 13 verließ sie die normale Schule und begann ihre Ausbildung als Schauspielerin am 'Central Junior Television Workshop', das sie nach 3 Jahren wieder verließ, um der Theatergruppe 'The Royal Court' beizutreten. Es folgten Hörspiele und Fernseh- und Filmrollen. Ihre Rolle in Woody Allens 'Sweet and lowdown' brachte ihr eine Oscar-Nominierung.
