Noel Coward (1899-1973) besuchte als Kind die Schauspielschule Italia Conti Academy und hatte erste Auftritte. Mit 14 Jahren wurde er der Geliebte des Malers Philip Streatfeild, durch den er in die High Society eingeführt wurde. Er begann schon bald, selbst Komödien und Revuen zu schreiben. In deren Aufführungen wirkte er oft selbst mit. Daneben verfaßte er mehrere während des Zweiten Weltkriegs sehr populäre Songs wie 'London Pride' und 'Don't let's be beastly to the Germans'.
